Ephraim Wootton

We now know what happened to Henry's friend Ephraim Wootton thanks to Sheila Moore in Cornwall, UK - a member of the Wootton family.

Ephraim was baptised in Bow Brickhill in 1826, married Elizabeth Busby in 1853 and had four children: Alfred, Mary, Lucy. They lived in Wolverton where he was a machinist at the railway factory.

But Ephraim's end was not happy.  His death certificate states that when he was  72 years old with the occupation of "Mechanic" he committed suicide "by Cutting Throat -  Temporary Insanity."  Read a newspaper report of the inquest here.
