The Band

We all met through ‘Folk Camps’, a society organising holidays emphasising traditional music and dance. Our parents brought us on these holidays from a very young age, so we have been playing music together for many years. In 2001 we appeared as a band together for the first time. Many of the tracks on the album 'gaps' were taken from the set-list for this gig. The recording for ‘gaps’ was done at Madcap studios on two Sunday afternoons over a year apart.

Five tracks were recorded in October 2002 and the remainder in December 2003.

We stumbled upon the band’s name 'M4TRIX' as we tried to plan how the tunes, harmonies, accompaniment and dynamics might vary throughout each track. We ended up with lots

of bits of paper with arrangement notes in a kind of grid form - hence the name.

Thanks should go to Keanu Reeves for his invaluable marketing assistance.

The Album
'gaps'

The album title ‘gaps’ refers to the many types of gap associated with the band and this album.

Some examples … the gap between the two recordings, the gaps in the arrangement of tunes, the

gap between London (RM) and Milton Keynes (PB, CJ, SM), the gaps in ages of the band

(from 20-something to 40-something!). We're sure there are others.

1. Windbroke/The Plane Tree/The Hop Break

2. The Sunset/The Road To Poynton
3.  Jen's Tune/Glenglass
4. Truly Madly Deeply Scrunchy
5. The Countess Cathleen
6. Farewell To Whalley Range/John Brady's Jig
7. The Awakening
8. The Reel Waltz/(Mind The) gaps
9. Lord Mayo
10. Trikuti/Trip To Kalymnos

  Approx playing time: 47mins
